Super-resolution AI technology, driver integration, no game optimization required


Nvidia is preparing to implement a new technology, DLDSR (Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution). NVIDIA pioneered DLSS (Deep Learning Oversampling), which continues to iterate and become the industry benchmark, then introduced AI-based DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) as well as NIS (Screen Scaling) enhanced and open source.

The green company will use DLDSR technology in its next Game Ready controllers. AMD aims to offer FSR, RSR two super-resolution technologies, the latter will be released soon, built into the driver, support any game, claim to improve performance by up to 70%.

DLDSR is an AI-enhanced version of the classic DSR functionality found in Nvidia’s Control Panel. Now, “super-resolution” is more effectively controlled by artificial intelligence.

DLDSR “renders a game at a higher resolution and more detail before intelligently downscaling the result to monitor resolution,” Nvidia explains on its website.

Compared to traditional DSR, artificial intelligence can reduce the number of inputs and improve image quality. In this way, the image quality of DLDSR 2.25X will be comparable to that of DSR 4X. The objective is to improve the performance of this function and to reduce the use of resources to achieve it.

Unfortunately, this will only be possible on RTX graphics cards with Tensor cores. The GTX series will therefore not have the DLDSR function.

Nvidia believes it won’t be a problem to make the feature available in most games.

Nvidia has also partnered with the author of the popular tool ReShade, which will add three new freestyle filters to GeForce Experience.

The benefits of this feature are self-explanatory – it allows the graphics card to increase the frame rate during gaming when the hardware requirements are high, because the GPU renders a lower resolution image. For those with a high-end graphics card and performing above average in some games, there may be a demand for more detailed game graphics.

For this situation, AMD and NVIDIA have developed a technology called DSR, which allows the GPU to render images at higher resolution and then compress them to the native full screen resolution for output, allowing the graphics to be more detailed. . The game’s frame rate drops a bit.

DLDSR and the new Freestyle filters will be included in the next Game Ready controllers, which will be released on January 14.
