The latest information on the future of the former Wareham college site will be shared with residents at a Purbeck Gateway engagement event, led by Dorset Council, next month.

The council’s Building Better Lives team will be joined by Dr Alastair Ward of Wareham Surgery, along with local councillors, Beryl Ezzard and Ryan Holloway, between 9am and 1pm on Saturday August 13, 2022.

Visitors to the Purbeck Gateway stand – located in the middle of Wareham Market, on Wareham Quay – will be able to learn about:

– affordable, specialized and specialized housing for local populations
– an update on Wareham GP surgery
– the main results of the recent Worgret Road Playing Fields survey

Purbeck Gateway is the working title of an exciting development project in Wareham. The vision of the project is a community driven development, integrating primary health care facilities, social support services and housing for all ages, affordable housing, public green spaces and recreational facilities.

Dorset Council portfolio holder for housing and communities, Cllr Graham Carr-Jones, said: “The Purbeck Gateway scheme on Worgret Road is going to be such a great addition to the town; benefiting the people of Wareham and surrounding areas for years to come.

“A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes since the height of the pandemic to move development forward and we are really excited to now be at a stage where we can talk to people in person about housing and healthcare facilities that make such a positive difference in the lives of so many people.

Dr Alastair Ward, of Wareham Surgery, added: “Wareham Surgery is in talks with PHP, a third-party developer, to design and build a new practice for Wareham.

“No plans have yet been drawn up or planning permission requested, but negotiations are starting between Dorset Council, PHP and Wareham Surgery, for premises opposite Worgret Road.

“Once some initial plans for the surgery have been developed, there will be extensive stakeholder and public consultation to further develop the plans.”

Councilors Ryan Holloway and Beryl Ezzard will be on hand to discuss Purbeck Gateway and other matters.
