Riding the wave of enthusiasm for no-code/low-code solutions, Microsoft today announced Power Pages, a standalone product within the company’s Power Platform portfolio for building enterprise websites. Power Pages previously existed as a component in Power Apps called Power Apps Portals, but it’s been splintered and redesigned with a new user experience.

“As a new standalone product, Power Pages offers anyone, regardless of their technical background, an efficient platform to build data-driven, modern and secure websites,” said Sangya Singh, Vice President of power portals at Microsoft. blog post. “In addition to being low-code, Power Pages extends far beyond the legacy capabilities of portals to enable organizations of any size to securely build websites with exciting new aesthetic features and advanced customization with pro-dev extensibility.”

There is no shortage of web design startups in the market. But Microsoft touts Power Pages integrations with its existing services as the main differentiator. For example, Power Pages partners with Visual Studio Code, GitHub, the Power Platform CLI, and Azure DevOps to allow more advanced users to automate development workflows (for example, uploading and downloading projects ) and leverage CI/CD practices. Power Pages also allows users to implement role-based access controls and web application firewalls through Azure, and collect and share business information with site visitors through the platform. Other highlights include the Power Pages design studio, which provides tools to style, configure, and publish layouts and pages with text, videos, images, and business data forms and lists. The Model Hub offers ready-to-use websites for use cases such as planning, registering and submitting applications, while the “Learning Hub” hosts guides and tutorials on building websites, modeling business data, and working with code components.

“People often think that low-code web development is good for basic projects like a site to showcase a company profile or a blog site. Power Pages is an enterprise-grade platform for building solutions that optimize business workflow with external audiences like customers, partners, and community members,” Singh continued. “With its origins in Power application portals, from sales to government departments, Power Pages is already being used by customers around the world.”

If surveys are any indication, there is a strong demand for web design tools despite market saturation. According to a recent Top Design Firms survey, while 28% of small businesses don’t have a website, 44% plan to build one in 2021 – bodes well for the new Power Pages.
