Lukashenko wants Belarusian mall on site of Iran’s unfinished building in Minsk

MINSK, July 22 (BelTA) — A Belarusian shopping center is set to be built on the site of the unfinished construction project launched by Iran in Minsk, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said during his visit to the Stolitsa shopping center in the center of Minsk, BelTA learned.

The head of state was informed that there were practically no more spaces available for rent in the Stolitsa shopping center – they were all taken, and mainly by national brands. The assortment of products sold by Belarusian manufacturers is huge: clothes and shoes, souvenirs, home textiles, tableware, accessories, food products, furniture and many others.

“The fact that you have finally transformed this point of sale into a Belarusian shopping center is a good thing,” reacted the head of state. The President gave the instruction to build the same type of retail on the site of the unfinished Minsk Magnet construction project at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Kalinovskogo Street. Construction work began in 2009. The project was never completed.

“It is necessary to create the same type of retail business on the model of this shopping center,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “We will focus on promoting Belarusian products. If foreign brands have left the country, so be it. We will sell our own products. Therefore, you have to build the same type of mall there,” the president noted.

The head of state has instructed to immediately start work on the site of the Iranian construction project.

“We must give priority to Belarusian products and manufacturers,” said the head of state.
