First elected to the board at-large in 2016 and then again to represent Area 5 on the east side in 2018 when DUSD converted to district director elections, Cherrier lists on his campaign website key priorities including transparency, financial accountability and the completion of the new Emeraude High School.

“I was elected on a platform of excellence in education and wise spending,” Cherrier said in a statement posted on his campaign website. “My case is clear and consistent. (I am) in favor of a second full high school.”

Cherrier is challenged in Zone 5 by Sameer Hakim, who was previously appointed to the DUSD board and served in 2015 and 2016. The incumbent declined an interview request from The Weekly.

A long-time resident of Dublin, Cherrier works as a civil engineer specializing in transport. Along with the school district, he has served as council chair since December 2019, when his fellow council members elected him to the position. Cherrier has also served on committees such as the DUSD Citizen Bond Oversight Committee and the District Optimization Committee.
