GUANGZHOU, Nov 6 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – Nov 6, 2022): German chemical giant BASF SE will invest in a new world-class neopentyl glycol (NPG) plant with an annual production capacity of 80 000 tonnes at its Verbund site in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province (southern China).
With the new NPG plant to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025, BASF’s global NPG capacity will increase from 255,000 tons to 335,000 tons per year, strengthening the company’s position as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of NPG.
Vasilios Galanos, Senior Vice President of BASF Intermediates Asia Pacific, said: “Investing in an NPG plant at the Zhanjiang Verbund site will enable us to meet growing customer demand in Asia, particularly in the field of plastic coatings. powder in China. our unique Verbund model and advanced technologies, we are confident that our investment in the NPG plant will strengthen our competitive advantage, primarily in China, the world’s largest chemical market.
“Enjoying high chemical and thermal stability, NPG is an intermediate primarily used in the production of powder coating resins, which are particularly effective in the construction industry and for coating household appliances. Due Due to their low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, the powder allows their users to comply with VOC emission standards by reducing the release of VOCs by up to 50% compared to liquid coatings.
The Verbund site is the first entirely foreign-funded project in China’s heavy chemical industry. It covers an area of approximately 9 square kilometers and is expected to generate a total investment of up to €10 billion by 2030. This is BASF’s largest investment to date.
