Alibaba Cloud Launches Carbon Management Solution – Energy Expert

COMPANY NEWS: A sustainability platform available for global customers to measure, analyze and better manage carbon emissions.

Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of the Alibaba Group, announced the global launch of Energy Expert, a sustainability platform to help customers around the world measure, analyze and manage emissions carbon emissions from their business activities and products. Software-as-a-service offerings also provide actionable insights and energy-saving recommendations to help customers accelerate their sustainability journey.

The initiative is aligned with that of Alibaba pledge of carbon neutrality, which was unveiled last year. The company launched the “Scope 3+” concept and is committed to sharing its energy efficient technologies with its customers and business partners, uniting them in their collective efforts to reduce the carbon footprint.

“Energy Expert is designed to help businesses achieve their carbon neutral goals through advanced technologies and streamlined solutions,” said Chen Lijuan, General Manager of Products and Solutions at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “We hope that our proven innovation can help our global customers achieve their net zero goals through insightful actions and informed sustainability practices.”

Energy Expert helps customers automate the carbon accounting and reporting process at the company and product level, and get real-time sustainability impact statistics to help them make informed decisions. It enables customers to identify the sources of carbon emissions from their day-to-day business activities as well as the full life cycle of their products, based on PAS 2060 and ISO 14064 carbon neutral standards. Customers can also quantify their carbon footprint through a predefined calculation model leveraging Energy Expert’s public emission factor datasets and proprietary datasets. Additionally, it provides visibility into their real-time carbon emissions patterns and sustainability performance trends through visualizations on dashboards and online reports.

Additionally, the solution provides industry-leading energy efficiency and emissions forecasting analytics through deep learning-based AI models hosted on Alibaba Cloud. To help clients minimize their overall environmental impact, Energy Expert also offers actionable optimization plans with recommendations that balance business growth and environmental impacts. These can include increasing the use of clean energy, reducing excessive electricity consumption during peak hours, and optimizing the supply chain from materials sourcing to manufacturing. shipping of products.

Energy Expert also works with globally recognized industry organizations such as TÜV Rheinland to provide authoritative online carbon footprint accounting and certification, helping customers easily validate and report their carbon footprint progress. energy saving with stakeholders.

In China, the innovation was rolled out in February this year. So far, it has served more than 2,000 businesses there, generating energy savings of more than 2 million kilowatt hours per day, a reduction of 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions since February.

Energy Expert also played a key role in the sustainability measures implemented at Alibaba’s headquarters in Xixi in Hangzhou. With the energy saving ideas she came up with – such as smart control of the air conditioning system and the installation of rooftop solar panels that produce 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year – the solution helped to optimize energy efficiency at the head office, reducing energy consumption by 30% during off-peak hours and saving 17% of air conditioning energy consumption in the summer.
